Conditional Love by L.A. Arbuckle is a gripping and intense novel that dives into the heart of a family in crisis. The story centers on Neva Stevenson and her three children as they try to survive a night of terror at the hands of Neva’s violent husband. She must find a way to keep her three children safe as danger fills their home. Upstairs, her children—Kris, Tom, and little Rachel—hide in fear, clinging to each other and desperately seeking safety. The novel follows their harrowing attempts to escape, weaving together the perspectives of both mother and children as they navigate fear, pain, and the desperate hope for rescue. Arbuckle paints a vivid picture of the chaos and emotional turmoil, drawing the reader deep into the family’s struggle for survival.

L.A. Arbuckle’s writing is raw and unflinching, capturing both the brutality of the situation and the resilience of her characters. The plot moves at a fast pace, keeping the tension high and making it hard to put the book down. I found the action scenes realistic and gripping, while the quieter moments showed the deep bonds between the siblings and their mother. The characters feel genuine, especially Kris, whose courage and quick thinking stand out. The themes of survival, family loyalty, and the impact of domestic violence are handled with honesty and care. I was moved by the author’s ability to balance suspense with emotional depth, and I appreciated how each character’s voice felt distinct and real. Conditional Love left me thinking about the strength people can find in the darkest moments, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful, character-driven story that doesn’t shy away from difficult truths.

Best book I’ve read in awhile. Neva is relatable, and easy to love! I was hooked from the first page
